You simply don’t get any better than Scotland for the perfect wedding venue. Fantastic traditions, great food and drink, and stunning scenery – all the ingredients for a truly special celebration.
There are many ideal wedding venues right here in the north-east of Scotland – we’ve come up with five of our favourites!
Situated south of Stonehaven on the edge of Drumtochty Forest, in the heart of a wild woodland glen. A truly dreamy venue, the castle is exclusively yours for the weekend and can comfortably house your entire wedding party, while your guests can reside in purpose-built accommodation situated only a stone’s throw away.
This castle oozes traditional Scottish rurality. The hallways are grand yet welcoming, and the elegant ballroom is home to a large feature fireplace and an abundance of stag heads. The picturesque chapel, close by the castle, is ideal for your wedding ceremony, and the surrounding countryside provides an idyllic backdrop for your photographs.
The turrets and towers of Scotland’s pink castle really do spell fairytale wedding. Managed by The National Trust for Scotland, Fyvie Castle near Turriff is available all year round.
This 13th century castle is home to masterpieces by Raeburn and Batoni, and features an amazing gallery and traditional drawing room which provide the perfect setting for your wedding reception. The extensive landscaped grounds are beautiful and if you take a walk around the castle you can even meet the resident wildlife.
Raemoir House Hotel
Set in the heart of Royal Deeside, Raemoir House is a stunning Georgian mansion with so many unique backdrops of fabulous reception rooms, secluded lawns and parkland. It’s a bride’s heaven – and a photographer’s dream. More adventurous brides and grooms can access the hills behind the hotel for some truly stunning views of the Grampian countryside across to the North Sea and up Royal Deeside.
Raemoir caters for both intimate weddings as well as guest numbers in excess of 350 with the use of its adjoining marquee. And, if you really want to make a grand entrance, you can even arrive by helicopter to Raemoir’s very own helipad.
If you’re looking for the perfect location for the most important day of your life, this 13th century estate has everything you could wish for. Meldrum House is situated just outside Oldmeldrum in the heart of Aberdeenshire’s countryside. The quintessential tree-lined driveway gives you the authentic grandeur of a Scottish country estate. And whether you reside in the lavish accommodation in the stylish hotel, the homely lodge or in its newly refurbished stable rooms – Meldrum House certainly has you spoilt for choice.
The purpose-built ballroom is a blank canvas for all your Pinterest wedding board ideas and the expansive grounds provide endless opportunities for your wedding day photography.
The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa
We can’t do a top five list without noting this stunning venue. At this five-star hotel, you’re bound to be in for a treat. The Marcliffe at Pitfodels is known for its beautiful setting, luxurious interiors and, of course, first-class service. It’s a great spot for weddings too. The team at The Marcliffe offers the full package to cater for every couple’s needs – they even provide a kilted Scottish piper!
The Marcliffe is famed for its fine cuisine and prides itself on offering Scotland’s finest fresh fish, meat and game alongside locally sourced fruit and vegetables – providing the perfect wedding meal for up to 400 people. Just 10 minutes from Aberdeen city centre, The Marcliffe really is the perfect Scottish countryside retreat in the city.
